ISOC-IL Partners With Technion “Doing Good” CS Hackathon: Advancing Tech Innovation in Education and the Fight Against Disinformation

Programming is a superpower – and with great power comes great responsibility.

On May 8-9, the 2025 CS Hackathon: Doing Good gathered 140 computer science students from both the graduate and undergraduate programs for a 24-hour programming marathon, focused on combating disinformation while engaging the next generation of tech leaders.

Collaborating with faculty members, researchers, industry engineers, and professionals from the fields of media and public diplomacy, as well as information and behavior scientists, the hackathon focused on developing practical solutions for real-world challenges. ISOC-IL’s involvement in this year’s Technion CS Hackathon is part of our commitment to advance innovation, entrepreneurship, and educational technologies in response to misinformation and disinformation, as part of our “Disinformation Resilience Israel” (DRI) project funded by the European Union.

Edan Ring, VP of Community Affairs at ISOC-IL and Nitsan Yasur, ISOC-IL’s Disinformation and Digital Investigations Lead provided expert guidance to frame the theme of this year’s hackathon. They presented at the pre-Hackathon event on April 27, 2025, introducing the students to misinformation threats and innovative ways to think about solutions to the challenges, leveraging ISOC-IL’s efforts and resources in combating disinformation and strengthening the resilience of Israeli society online and offline. Both Edan and Nitsan served as mentors during the hackathon whilst Nitsan and Dr. Asaf Wiener, VP of Research and Public Policy at ISOC-IL, were amongst the judges.

Congrats to the winning teams and all the amazing participants!
