On November 24, 2025 the Department of Communication at Tel Aviv University held a dynamic panel discussion on “Disinformation and Conspiracies”, engaging around 100 communication and journalism students and several faculty members as part of the “Foundations of Networked Society” course.
Edan Ring, VP of Community Affairs at ISOC-IL presented on the panel as part of the public education and media literacy initiatives with university students of the ISOC-IL’s Disinformation Resilience Israel (DRI) project, supported by the European Union. A key part of the project involves grassroots and community outreach for university students to improve information literacy and capacity to critically evaluate the reliability and credibility of online content and information sources. Edan worked with the Department to curate the speakers list for the panel discussion, which included prominent journalists and activists specializing in countering disinformation.
The session focused on how digital media can amplify misleading narratives, particularly during moments of crisis and elections, and explored strategies for promoting accuracy and reliability in the media. Participants examined the challenges of identifying truth amidst an overload of information and sensational content. Students and faculty members interacted directly with experts in the field, gaining practical insights and asking pressing questions about the risks of conspiracy theories and digital manipulation.
The panel was part of ongoing efforts by the university and partner organizations to strengthen media literacy and public awareness on information reliability, affirming the pivotal role of informed citizens in sustaining democratic processes.
