Changes to the WHOIS Information Display Policy in the .il and ישראל. Domain Name Spaces

On September 1, 2026, the Israel Internet Association (ISOC-IL) will update the WHOIS service policy applicable to the .il and ישראל. domain name spaces.

Under the updated policy, the information displayed in WHOIS query results will be reduced and will no longer include the following details:

  • The physical address of the domain name holder
  • The telephone number of the domain name holder
  • The names of the administrative, technical, and zone contacts defined for the domain name.

However, the following information will continue to be publicly available through the WHOIS service:

  • The name of the domain name holder
  • The domain name holder’s email address
  • The email addresses of the administrative and technical contacts
  • Technical information about the domain name, including the registration and expiration dates, DNS servers, and the managing registrar

This decision was made following a comprehensive and in-depth review process conducted by the Association, aimed at balancing the need for transparency and public access to information with considerations of privacy and the protection of personal data. As part of this process, the Association conducted a comparative review of WHOIS policies across various registries worldwide, examined who uses the service and for what purposes, met with stakeholders to better understand their needs, and considered feedback received from the public over the years regarding the service policy.

After reviewing all the findings and considerations that emerged during the process, and following internal discussions on the matter, the Board of Directors of the Israel Internet Association decided to update the WHOIS service policy accordingly.
