We are happy to announce that ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), announced the successful completion of String Evaluation of the proposed Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) country code top-level domain (ccTLD) string for Israel. Details of the evaluation are provided here.
Supported by relevant state bodies and civil society representatives, ISOC-IL has been actively advocating this significant change in recent years. ICANN’s approval will result in a Hebrew namespace additional to the existing .il ccTLD.
As soon as the application was approved, ISOC-IL launched the next phase of the process: the technological-administrative delegation with IANA (ICANN’s executive body) toward implementing the decision.
