Domain name registration is processed according to registration rules since January 1, 1999.

Registration of domain names with extensions org.il, co.il, muni.il, ac.il, .net.il is done through Accredited Registrars.
These are organizations that have been approved by ISOC-IL after meeting ISOC-IL’s technical and service criteria.
The registrars enjoy a free market, and ISOC-IL recommends comparing the various services and prices offered. For a guide to choosing a registrar.

As of November 1, 2016, applications for direct registry through ISOC-IL are no longer accepted, and anyone wishing to register an .il domain may choose from a list of ISOC-IL’s Accredited Registrars.

How is a domain registered?
First, choose a domain name and verify its availability using the query protocol WHOIS
After you have confirmed the domain name’s availability, you may contact one of the ISOC-IL Accredited Registrars and register the domain through them.
The registrar will be able to guide you through the whole processes of registering your domain name.

Transfer between Registrars
Management of domain names can be transferred freely between Accredited Registrars by requesting a transfer. For further details, see Transfer between Registrars.
The Domain name registry period is 1-2 years, maximum.
Domain name extensions: .muni.il, .k12.il, .net.il, .ac.il
These domain name extensions are not open to the general public, and serve only public or accredited institutions: .muni/municipalities, .k12.il/public schools, .net/Accredited Internet Service Providers, .ac/registered academic institutions, as specified in Clause 5 of the Registry Regulations.
Domain names with the .k12.il extension are registered directly by ISOC-IL.
