Who We Are

The Israel Internet Association (ISOC-IL) is an independent non-profit organization established in 1994 to promote internet access and integration across Israel. Our pivotal mission is to ensure the Israeli internet is an open, neutral, reliable, secure, and fair space for the benefit of Internet users and the Israeli public. ISOC-IL has managed core Internet infrastructure in Israel since the introduction of the commercial Internet in the early 1990s.

ISOC-IL operates Israel’s country code top-level domain (ccTLD) registry, responsible for managing the registration of ‘.il‘ and ‘ישראל.‘ domain names. It also operates Israel’s Internet exchange infrastructure, including the long-standing Israel Internet eXchange (IIX)and the new Layer 3 IL-IX exchange. Together, these exchanges enable secure, fast, and resilient access to Israeli and global websites and online services. In line with international best practice for critical Internet infrastructure, ISOC-IL performs these functions as a neutral, not-for-profit organization independent of political or commercial interests.

ISOC-IL has been officially recognized as the Israel chapter of the international Internet Society (ISOC) since 1995. As Israel’s representative in organizations like RIPE-NCC, ccNSO, ICANN and CENTR, we advance ISOC’s vision of an open, globally-connected and trustworthy internet. ISOC-IL operates in accordance with its organizational bylaws and is governed by a Board of Trustees consisting of seven volunteers, all experts and pioneers in the Israeli Internet industry, who bring decades of technical and policy experience to steward the development of the Israeli internet.

Alongside ISOC-IL’s infrastructure work, the organization creates and publishes information, tools, and data relating to the Internet in Israel, providing important resources for decisionmakers and the general public alike. In addition, we promote public policy initiatives that affect the digital lives of Israel’s citizens and residents.

Uniquely bridging the worlds of technology, policy, and the public, ISOC-IL leverages trusted relationships across sectors. We unite technologists, policymakers and the public around a shared vision of an Israeli internet that empowers, protects and benefits all who use it. Our technology-grounded approach paired with an intimate understanding of policy dynamics enables us to anticipate challenges and devise pragmatic solutions. By convening diverse voices and facilitating cooperative action, we help ensure the Israeli Internet remains a reliable, equitable, secure, independent and competitive space serving the interests of all sectors of society.
